It turns out that my back condition is degenerative disc disease. I go for an MRI soon to determine the extent of the injury. Bleh.

Sorry to hear about your back troubles, Ray. I hope the damage isn’t too great. Is there anything that your doctor can do for you, once they know the extent of the injury? Needless to say, “get well soon.”
